BOTOX® & Dermal Fillers

Our Aesthetic Services

Dr. Wyse administers BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dermal Fillers in the office. She will take the time to talk to you about your areas of concern and how best to provide a more youthful yet very natural appearance. As an ophthalmologist, her knowledge of facial anatomy and extensive surgical experience are major assets in performing these treatments.

BOTOX®

Botox Cosmetic | Wyse Eyecare | Northbrook
The use of BOTOX® for cosmetic purposes was discovered by chance by an ophthalmologist who was treating eyelid spasms. She noticed the softening of lines and wrinkles in the treated areas. BOTOX® is now widely used for facial rejuvenation. Lines in the forehead area, around the eyes, “bunny lines” at the side of the nose, frown lines between the brows, the chin crease, and fine lines along the upper and lower lip border are some of the areas that can be treated in our office. Over time even deeper lines tend to fade. Effects start after just a few days and last 3 to 4 months. Administration of Botox® takes just a few minutes, with minimal discomfort (a slight sting). There is no downtime.

Frequently Asked Questions (Botox®)

Who will evaluate me during my Botox® appointment?

Dr. Wyse evaluates each patient to discuss specific areas of concern to that individual.  Generally photographs of the patient’s face are taken so that the doctor and patient can review the specific goals of the patient looking at the photographs together.

Who administers Botox® injections in the practice?

Dr. Wyse personally performs all of the Botox® and filler injections.

Is Botox® administration painful?

No, there is a slight sting with injection, but we offer all patients numbing cream which we apply for several minutes prior to treatment.  This makes the treatment virtually painless for most patients.

How Long is Recovery After Botox®?

We ask that you not press or rub the treated area on the day of treatment (though you can wash your face or apply makeup gently).  We ask that you do not work out or lie down for 4 hours after treatment.  Otherwise there are no restrictions and there is no downtime.

How quickly does Botox® work?

Effects are seen at 2 to 3 days after treatment, but it takes up to two weeks to see the full effect. Botox effects typically last 3-4 months.

How long do the effects of Botox® last?

Effects last 3 to 4 months.  For patients who have been getting injections regularly, generally the time between treatments can be extended to 4 to 6 months.

What are the side effects of Botox®?

Since the effects wear off after 3 to 4 months, any side effect wears off by then as well.  The main concern is Botox® that is injected to close to the muscles that control the lids.  This can result in a droopy lid or reduced ability to close the lids.  As ophthalmologists trained in the administration of Botox®, our doctors are particularly attentive to this area of concern.

What areas can be treated with Botox®?

Forehead lines
Brows- Botox® can help lift the brows, especially in combination with filler
Glabella- the lines between the eyebrows
Crow’s feet- the wrinkles at the outer corners of the eyes
Bunny lines- the wrinkles at the sides of the upper nose
Chin- to smooth chin crease and dimpling/irregularity of the chin, and to elongate the face
Below the outer mouth corners – to help lift a downturned mouth (usually in combination with filler)
Lips- tiny amounts of Botox® help smooth vertical lip lines just above and below lips
Jawline- to add definition.

Who is an Ideal Candidate for Botox® injections?

There are a few rare neurologic diseases that would prevent the use of Botox®.  Consultation with Dr. Wyse can determine if you are a candidate for Botox®.

How much does Botox® treatment cost?

The cost of treatment depends on the amount of Botox® that is used (the number of Botox® units).  This depends upon what areas of the face are treated, the anatomy of the individual, and the effect desired by the patient.  During a consultation, Dr. Wyse will help the patient decide on a treatment plan and discuss the number of Botox® units needed.

Do you offer other neurotoxins besides Botox®?

Yes, we offer Xeomin and Dysport.

Are there any Discounts Available for Botox®?

Dermal Fillers

Juvederm Ultra XC | Wyse Eyecare | Northbrook
Juvederm Ultra Plus XC | Wyse Eyecare | Northbrook
Juvederm Voluma XC | Wyse Eyecare | Northbrook

We use a variety of dermal fillers including Juvéderm® Ultra XCJuvéderm® Ultra Plus XC, Juvederm Volux XC,  Juvéderm Voluma® XC, Juvederm Vollure XC, Juvéderm Volbella® XC and Skinvive by Juvederm. These products consist of hyaluronic acid which is a naturally occurring substance in the skin. Hyaluronic acid delivers nutrients, helps the skin retain moisture and softness, and adds volume. With age, the facial tissues experience volume loss. Restoring this volume with dermal fillers helps restore a youthful appearance. Because the dermal fillers contain a local anesthetic, and we use additional topical or local anesthetic, there is minimal discomfort with filler injections. There may occasionally be mild, temporary bruising that can be covered with concealer, but otherwise, there is no downtime. Depending upon the type of dermal filler used, results can last 6 months to up to 2 years. Dr. Wyse emphasizes a natural appearing result with dermal fillers. We are experienced in treating both men and women. While we treat patients in their 20s, we have many patients well into their 80s who enjoy the benefits of fillers.

Dermal Fillers – Frequently Asked Questions

Who will evaluate me during my Dermal Fillers appointment?

Dr. Wyse evaluates each patient to discuss specific areas of concern to that individual. Generally, photographs of the patient’s face are taken so that the doctor and patient can review the specific goals of the patient looking at the photographs together.

Who administers dermal filler injections in the practice?

Dr. Wyse personally performs all dermal filler injections.

Is Dermal filler administration painful?

No, there is a slight sting or pressure sensation with injection, but we offer all patients numbing cream which we apply for at least 15 minutes prior to treatment. This makes the treatment very comfortable for most patients.

How long is recovery after Dermal fillers?

We ask that you not press or rub the treated area on the day of treatment and wait until the day after treatment to exercise, apply makeup or apply face creams. Some patients do get bruising or slight swelling in the treated areas, but this is generally mild and can be covered with make-up starting the day after treatment.

How quickly does Dermal filler work?

Effects are seen immediately after treatment. There can, however, be some very mild swelling or bruising after treatment depending upon the patient, so the final result is seen once these resolve.

What is Dermal filler made of and how does it work?

Our practice uses fillers made of hyaluronic acid and local anesthetic (lidocaine). Hyaluronic acid is a colorless, natural substance that is normally made in our bodies and found in our skin. In the skin, hyaluronic acid delivers nutrients, helps the skin retain moisture and softness, and adds volume. As we age, our skin loses volume, causing wrinkles and sagging. By injecting dermal filler, we are replacing hyaluronic acid. Wrinkles are smoothed and volume is restored, recreating a more youthful contour to the curves of the face.

How long do the effects of Dermal filler last?

Effects last about 6 months to 2 years depending upon the type of dermal filler used. On average, about a year. Dr. Wyse can discuss this with you during your consultation. As dermal filler is absorbed by the body over time, there is some residual dermal filler and future treatments may not require as much product.

Which Dermal fillers are used and what are the differences between them?

Our practice uses Juvederm® Ultra XC, Juvederm® Ultra Plus XC, Juvederm Volux XC, Juvederm Voluma® XC, Juvederm Vollure™ XC, Juvederm Volbella® XC and SkinVive by Juvederm. These dermal fillers vary in their thickness and how easily they spread. They also vary in how quickly they are absorbed by the body. The differing consistency of these products makes some more appropriate for certain areas of the face. In addition, the severity and depth of the wrinkles being treated may make one filler more appropriate than another.

What areas can be treated with Dermal fillers?

Chin- volume can be added to provide a stronger profile, contour can be changed, irregularities can be smoothed

What are the side effects of Dermal fillers?

Most side effects are mild in nature, and their duration is short lasting. The most common side effects are bruising, swelling, and firmness or tenderness in the areas injected. Infection is very rare, but before treatment, your skin will be thoroughly cleansed and antiseptic applied. Rarely, filler can enter a blood vessel and need to be dissolved to prevent skin damage. Dr. Wyse will review side effects with you in greater detail before treatment.

Is there anyone who should not have Dermal filler injections?

Dr. Wyse will review your medical history during the consultation to make sure treatment is appropriate for you. Patients with recent infections or very compromised immune systems should not have dermal filler injections until these issues are resolved. Patients on blood thinners may be treated, but may have more bruising. Patients who have a history of keloid scar formation (large elevated scars) are not ideal candidates, but this is assessed on an individual basis. Patients with multiple severe allergies are not good candidates.

How much does Dermal filler treatment cost?

The cost of treatment depends on the amount and type of dermal filler used. This depends upon what areas of the face are treated, the anatomy of the individual, and the effect desired by the patient. During a consultation, Dr. Wyse will help the patient decide on a treatment plan and discuss the amount and type of dermal filler recommended. Packages are available in our office to provide a discount when more than one vial of filler is used.

Skin Rejuvenation

Our other aesthetic services are performed by Licensed certified aesthetician Jennie Bubloni and board- certified Physician Assistant Taylor Lintner. Each has been trained extensively in these skin treatments and can provide a customized plan for your skin.

Diamondglow Skin Treatment

DiamondGlow is a noninvasive skin resurfacing treatment with little to no downtime and lasting results. It is customized to your skin type and specific concerns. It is powered by the research behind SkinMedica.

Six different diamond tips allow your esthetician to tailor the treatment.

DiamondGlow first exfoliates, then deep cleanses, and finishes by infusing a SkinMedica serum into the skin when the pores are open and most receptive. Different SkinMedica serums are targeted to specific concerns.

The treatment can be designed to target hyperpigmentation/dark spots, redness, fine lines and wrinkles, or pore clarifying to treat acne.

A customized SkinMedica at home maintenance regimen that compliments the DiamondGlow treatment will be designed for each patient.

Spa Facials

The SkinMedica facial is a relaxing treatment that includes deep cleansing, exfoliating, moisturizing, and hydrating the skin. Your esthetician will also help customize your SkinMedica at home maintenance regimen to promote youthful, healthy skin.

Chemical Peels

Illuminize Peel by SkinMedica: our lightest peel is appropriate for first time peel patients or patients with mild skin imperfections. It provides brighter, more radiant skin.

Vitalize Peel by SkinMedica: suitable for all skin types with mild to moderate skin imperfections. Diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, addresses skin tone unevenness that can be caused by acne scarring or other pigmentary changes. It produces predictable and noticeable results with minimal downtime.

Rejuvenize Peel by SkinMedica: a deeper peel indicated for patients with more severe skin imperfections. It produces noticeable improvement in fine lines and wrinkles after one peel, and even more compelling results with 3-6 peels. There is some down time.

Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is a cosmetic procedure that painlessly removes the top layers of your skin and peach fuzz. The procedure helps to remove fine wrinkles and improve deep acne scarring or pockmarks. Dermaplaning safely and gently exfoliates dead skin cells and removes fine hairs. This treatment reveals smooth, glowing, fuzz-free skin and improves your skin texture over time. It has been clinically proven that hair removed will not grow back thicker. There is no down-time. In addition, by removing the barrier of dead skin and hair, serums, moisturizers, and other treatments can work better after dermaplaning.
